In April, 2015 I joined the Calgary chapter of Victoria's Quilts. I've been involved most of my life in Charitable Organizations but over the last few years as my work load increased and my free time decreased, I found myself dropping my charitable work.
My retirement and in particular the bucket list item of quilting lead me straight to people who share their love of quilting with those in need. I find it really refreshing and satisfying to be back working with a Charible Organization. Victoria's Quilts has a strong sense of purpose.
Mission Statement
The mission of Victoria’s Quilts Canada is to provide handmade quilts to people with cancer in Canada. By providing these quilts, we hope to bring physical comfort to those dealing with cancer, as well as spiritual comfort in knowing they are not alone in their struggle.
About Victoria's Quilts
Victoria's Qults Canada is a national non-profit charitable organization with headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario and branches in cities and towns across Canada. The organization is run completely by volunteers. The is no paid staff.
Following the death of Victoria, her sister-in-law, Deb Rogers, founded Victoria's Quilts in the United States. With Deb's blessing, Betty Giffin started Victoria's Quilts in Canada.
From a humble beginning with 12 members in October, 2000, Victoria's Quilts Canada has flourished. There areover 1,100 members across Canada and to date, over 40,000 quilts have been delivered. Victoria's Quilts Canada
About the Quilts
The quilts are a gift. The cost is never passed on to the quilt recipient or to the person who requests the quilt. They are made only from 100% cotton including 100% cotton batting and 100% cotton flannelette for the backing. They are free from embellishments. If you just love to quilt, donations of finished quilts can also be made provided they meed the criteria.
Victoria's Quilt sizes are:
Adult - 50" x 70"
Youth - 40" x 60"
Child - 30" x 50"
How to Request a Quilt
To request a quilt for someone with cancer, please fill out and submit the form. Request Form
Your request will be placed on our recipients list and, as soon as a quilt becomes available, it will be sent out. Please be aware that the usual wait time for a quilt to be delivered is several weeks. While you are waiting, please advise the recipient that you have requested a quilt for her or him, to prevent the parcel from being returned to us.
Donations
Sadly, the demand for quilts continues to rise, as does the cost. Victoria’s Quilts Canada is fortunate to receive donations of cotton fabric from local shops, businesses, and individuals. However, it is often necessary to purchase additional cotton fabrics, batting and flannelette.
Financial Donations
Financial donations can be sent by mail or via the Canada Helps website. All donations of $20 or more will be issued a receipt for income tax purposes - Canadian Charitable Registration No. is 88036 4815 RR0001.

Fabric Donations
All the quilts are made from donated fabric. It is a requirement that the fabric be 100% cotton. However, once a year the Calgary Branch hosts a sale of wonderful fabric that has been donated that are not 100% cotton.
