Mission Statement
Project Linus Mission is two-fold:
First, to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need of a hug, through the gifts of new, handmade, washable blankets, quilts and afghans, lovingly crafted by volunteer "Blanketeers".
Second, to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.
About Project Linus
Project Linus was named after the adorable security blanket-toting character from the Peanuts comic strip. Creator Charles Schulz was aware of the effort and was delighted to have Linus inspire blanket makers to help comfort children in need of security.
Although originally focused on cancer patients, Project Linus Canada has expanded its focus to include any seriously ill or traumatized child.
A blanket is like a hug when you need it the most. The goal of Project Linus is to provide a blanket of security to children facing substantial distress in their lives.
Blanket Guidelines
The blankets can be all styles, sizes and shapes, including quilts (both hand quilted and machine quilted), sewn blankets, fleece blankets with a crocheted edge, crocheted or knitted afghans and receiving blankets.
Blankets must be new, handmade and washable and made from only new fabric and acrylic yarns (not wool). They should be made from child friendly colors and fabrics and sewn or knit well with a tight or closed pattern to withstand lots of use and washing. Blanket Guidelines
